For 49 years, Wee Care has been caring for children in the HRM (Halifax Regional Municipality). In the beginning, there were a couple of parents trying to learn from each other on how to cope with the challenges of raising a child with Cerebral Palsy. Now, Wee Care is a fully integrated child care centre, serving the varying needs of children both typical and atypical. This is a special place and it is the parents over the years that have spoken of the "Wee Care miracles." The care and attention provided here is something that you can't put into words, but the results are evident.
Every child in our care is a special angel and we are just here helping them learn to fly.

Some loose parts we collect, nuts and bolts, locks and keys, random lids. Some we have to buy. You can help us build our loose parts library. Every age benefits from loose parts play.

70 plus growing children drink a lot of milk! We tried to get our own cow but it turns out it is against the bylaws. And one cow just wasn't producing enough for all the young 'uns.
Help us pay our milk delivery driver so they will keep us stocked with cold, fresh milk.

Messy play and self-feeding...what a mess! We go through quite a few face cloths in the course of a day, keeping everybody clean. Spaghetti days are fun! Each child uses their own face cloth to reduce cross contamination.
Did you know our enrollment is 70 children? That's a lot of face cloths!

Books are an excellent learning tool to foster life-long love of learning. Children manipulate board and fabric books on their own. Teachers also read to children, in a group or one-on-one.
We would like to expand our library to include books on diversity, inclusion and the world as it is reflected today.
Although children's books vary widly in price, we are have sources to purchase books at a discounted price. Buy a book or contribute money to buy one.

We go through so much glue that you would think the children are eating it! Don't worry, they aren't. Besides your conventional use for glue, it is an essential ingrediant in slime. And our kids love slime!
Your donation will buy enough glue to slime 6 classrooms once a month.

We launder sheets and blankets and a mountain of other things. 2 - 3 loads everyday! We aim to use scent-free soap. If you help with the purchase of the soap, we won't ask you to help fold :)
We have all felt the shock at the grocery register upon check out time. Sky high prices mean we are all trying to save money where we can.
Your generous donation will help us put fruits and vegetables into the mouths of our wee ones for one week.

You can't buy us snow...and we get enough of that anyways! But, you can help us out with the purchase of child sized snow shovels, snow blocks and sleds with seat belts, so all our children can experience sledding down a hill and riding in a sled. We even have our very own hill behind the Centre for lots of sledding fun :)

The joy of "creating" fuels the minds of our littles and builds a foundation for decision making and independent thinking. It's also an outlet for energy (among other things.)
Craft supplies can range from pompoms, buttons, stickers, construction paper, paint and brushes, markers and scissors and so much more. You can help us keep our craft cupboard stocked and the children's imagination flowing.

With all the loose parts and creative play, you have to wonder about our battery usage. There are two types of battery hogs in this building - sound machines and Switch toys.
Sound machines we use at nap time.
And Switch toys are important play items for children who struggle to manipulate items with their hands. Special devices that can be adapted to the child allow them to interact with their environment and begin the understanding of cause and effect.
