HELP US GROW OUR JAGUAR CORRIDOR
It’s estimated that only 15,000 jaguars are
currently roaming the planet – and the Amazon rainforest is their last
refuge. But this is no safe haven. Their existence is under threat
from habitat loss and conflicts with humans.
To help combat these threats, ARC is creating a corridor
to protect jaguars living between the two mountain ranges
of the Cordillera Escalera Regional Park in the Peruvian Amazon
Rainforest. This corridor will provide a network of pathways to allow
these magnificent creatures to travel safely across the valley.
Currently, much of the valley has been cleared of its forest and
turned into cattle ranches. As a result, jaguars passing
through the valley are often shot on sight by the ranchers
who fear for their livestock.
Our jaguar corridor project was launched in
2022 and so far we have purchased six parcels of land spanning 194
acres. And now, we have an exciting opportunity to expand it even more!
Four parcels of land that we have long had our eye on are now up
for sale. A total of 180 acres. Purchasing these
lands would double the size of our jaguar
corridor! We need to raise the funds before end of year to
secure it from cattle ranchers who are making competing offers to the landowners.
To make this happen we need a total of $206,000. For a grassroots organization like ours, this is a significant sum. We are currently working on various paths to raise this money – one of which is this community-based fundraising campaign.
MAKING A MATCH
We’re excited to announce that we have THREE matching donors to help us reach our campaign goal. Marty and Krista Salter, Dag and Elina Falck, and The Schachter Family will match gifts up to $30,000 in total. This means every donation to this campaign will be matched dollar by dollar by these three ARC supporters. This means your gift will create double the impact!
WE NEED TO ACT FAST
We aren’t the only ones who have eyes on this land. While we fundraise, other people are also looking at purchasing these land parcels. We need to act so that ARC can acquire these lands and expand our jaguar corridor. This expansion will increase the network of pathways to allow these magnificent creatures (and all wildlife) in this region to have safe passage across the valley.
Our passion and dedication is unwavering but we need your help. Join us in ensuring our children and grandchildren live in a world where jaguars still live free in the wild.
Your support can make a transformative impact. For example, a gift of $250 will allow ARC to purchase a 1/4 acre and secure it as a perpetual wilderness sanctuary. But any financial contribution, big or small, will help us save jaguars.
Since launching this project our camera traps continue to capture footage of healthy jaguars traversing our land – not to mention tapirs, coatis and other wildlife. We are making an impact!
