NS Health Continuing Care hasn't added a story.
Our Care and Comfort Needs List is a quick and easy way to help ensure the people we serve throughout our community can get the things they need year-round. The Needs List provides funding for the areas of most need and allows our organization to provide them to our clients, residents and guests in the most efficient and cost-effective way.
Via our seven facilities -- six over-night facilities and our Hub Community Drop-in Centre -- Shelter Nova Scotia provides a safe place to stay for up to 106 people in need every day of the year and support services to over 1,300 individuals and families annually.
The needs are great and - with rising costs and the current housing crisis - steadily growing.
The process is simple:
- Purchase an item - or two, or 10. Multiple donations can be made easily by selecting the quantity you wish to give.
- We are notified and then use the money to make the purchase.
- The people we serve in our facilities and throughout the community get what they need.
With the support of the wider community, we aim to provide the utmost care & comfort to our clients, guests, tenants, and residents who are our neighbours throughout the Halifax area. The Care and Comfort Needs List includes things so many of us are able to take for granted in our daily lives - grocery store gift cards to purchase food, a warm cup of coffee, internet access to connect to services and education, safe, comfortable beds, and basic items like underwear, deodorant and shampoo that mean so much to someone's health and dignity. Beyond the basics for surviving a cold winter, the Care and Comfort Needs List gives the people we serve an opportunity to participate in social connections that matter so much to quality of life. Your contributions are essential to providing all these things.
From all of us at Shelter Nova Scotia, thank you for choosing to make a difference.

Treat someone to a hot beverage. A cup of coffee or tea may be just the thing someone needs to better face the challenges, warm body and spirit, and connect with others. That’s why we have free coffee and tea available to everyone at our six facilities and in our drop in Housing Hub.

Did you know the only pets allowed in our supported housing units are fish? Fish Project funds will go to providing tanks, supplies, and a new fish friend for any tenant who would like to have a pet. The fish provide companionship (great listeners!), a sense of connection and purpose, and enhance joy and dignity. Supported housing is more than a place to stay - it's a stable, supported home. And pets are an important part of many homes. Your donation to the Fish Project is an investment in connection and caring.

Generators (plus install) are needed for Metro Turning Point, Herring Cove Apartments and Sir Sandford Fleming House. The people we serve live with anxiety, worry and loneliness. When we lose power that anxiety accelerates, and our employees do their best to keep everyone calm and organized. Help us alleviate this problem. Every dollar helps us get there. If you're interested in adopting a specific house's project, or just want more info please contact fundraising@shelternovascotia.com

Treat someone to a Night's Rest. A $35.50 donation means a clean, safe space to rest for one individual experiencing homelessness. We serve 106 individuals daily, year-round, in the six facilities we own and operate. Your donation makes a difference. The gift of rest is priceless.

Treat someone to something special It's always best to "give the gift of choice" because, at the end of the day, the person with the most knowledge of what you really need, is you. The people we serve are no different. We will use this money to purchase grocery, various store, and Visa gift cards for 300+ people this holiday season. Gift cards allow people to purchase exactly what they need most and to do so with independence and dignity.
- 105 remaining
We would like to purchase "day planners/organizers," so we can hand them out to the individuals staying with us. Our guests, residents and tenants are all trying to transition from crisis back into the community. Assistance from a day planner will help them regain some control.
